What music should we choose for our wedding ceremony?”- From Game of Thrones to Bridal Chorus

One of the most common questions couples ask me is- ‘How do I choose my wedding ceremony music?’

Visualise your ideal day…what do you picture when you walk down the aisle? Of course your best friend will be at the end of the aisle, but what else? A beautiful church, a magical garden? A large gathering or an intimate occasion? Some of these details may help you select the music for your ceremony. Some churches have restrictions on music and only allow classical songs and hymns, otherwise the world is your oyster!

If you want to keep your ceremony traditional or formal, then party later, opt for mostly classical selections.

If you want to have a modern, or more relaxed feel for your ceremony, modern love songs work well.

You may have a themed wedding and base the music upon this or mix love songs with classical favourites. There are no rules!!

I always recommend to start with the most important song of the ceremony. The song where the bride makes their big entrance! Can you imagine yourself walking down the aisle to a particular song? Do you and your partner share a special song together? Then work backwards from there. If you have a large bridal party or a super long aisle, a separate song for the bridesmaids entrance can also be an option.

Don’t be afraid to ask if you can request a special song for your day. Surprise your guests with something unique to you that they didn’t expect to hear. From tv and movie theme music such as the Game of Thrones, love songs like Ed Sheeran or Elvis Presley, to gaming music such as Zelda or even a favourite traditional hymn that your mum absolutely loves, adding your personal touch to the music will make the day extra memorable.

Don’t forget to enjoy the journey leading up to that special day!
